Welcome to the
Public Rights Of Way (PROW) network page
PROW's in Chickerell consist of Footpath and Bridleway
Dorset County Council's Public Rights Of Way Team are responsible for PROW issues.
Footpath usually means un-surfaced path across fields and farm tracks - over which you have the right to walk unhindered from one place to another. A dog is considered a 'usual accompaniment' of a person on foot, but must be under your control at all times and must not worry livestock. Riding or walking horses or bikes on a Footpath is illegal.
Footpath does not mean the surfaced Pavement or Footway that runs alongside roads or across the front of houses. Dorset County Council's Highways Department are responsible for those pavements.
Bridleways are usually un-surfaced paths across fields and farm tracks - over which you have the right to ride or lead a horse, ride a bike, or walk unhindered from one place to another. A dog is considered a 'usual accompaniment' of a person on foot, but must be under your control at all times and must not worry livestock.
